C2 Internet And Phone Service
A New Player In The Residential Tele Com Space--C2 Internet And Phone Service
|
Cavalier Telephone and TV, a well known provider of digital television, telephone, and internet services, has partnered with internet giant Google to offer a new internet and digital telephone service bundle. The new service, known as the C2 internet and phone service, is available to approximately 90 percent of Cavalier's customer base in the mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Midwest. At first glance, the C2 Internet and Phone Service package does not look that special in comparison with other bundles. Cavalier provides an ADSL modem which is compatible with most router types, antivirus and anti spyware software, and free local and competitive long distance calling. However, a closer look shows that this bundle has a few extras that warrant a bit of extra attention. First, the asynchronous DSL internet connection is not shared like most common residential broadband connections. Instead, it is a fully dedicated line which means that upload and download bandwidths are not shared with other users. Cavalier has revealed that their dedicated connections typically achieve eight megabits per second (Mbps) download speeds and can reach as high as 15Mbps. These are fairly blistering speeds when compared to typical download speeds of anywhere from 1 to 3 Mbps for other American DSL providers. Of course, the real buzz regarding the new Cavalier C2 internet and phone service offering is around their partnership with Google. The C2 bundle includes full access to Google Apps, a revolutionary suite of software tools that operate entirely online. Google has been a pioneer in the web 2.0 revolution of the last couple of years. Google Apps are often considered to be the epitome of what a web 2.0 application should look like. Using asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX), Google apps look and feel like desktop application, but they run entirely in the browser. It appears that C2 has leveraged the work that Google has done on the app suites in order to provide their subscribers with a much richer collection of online applications than other providers. Of course, since Cavalier is a competitive local exchange carrier, one would expect their C2 internet and phone service to be competitive, and it is. The service has all the standard features one would expect such as voice mail, call waiting, call forwarding to mobile phones, etc. It is also compatible with all modern headsets and receiver types. |
